The Australian Government introduced an electronic visa system in 1999 for short stay tourist and short stay business visas. It is no longer necessary to visit an Australian Consulate or Embassy to receive a label in your passport. You will need to apply for a VISA (ETA [Electronic Travel Authority]) and this will let you spend up to three months in Australia.

Tourist Electronic Visa

• This visa allows a traveller to stay in Australia for up to 90 days (the stay period begins from the day of arrival in Australia)
• This visa is valid for use for one year beginning from the day of approval (if your passport expires sooner than one year, your electronic visa will expire on that date also)
• Multiple entries into Australia are permitted on this visa
• This visa is for tourist/recreational activities only. Paid employment is strictly prohibited.

Business Electronic Visa

• This visa allows a traveller to stay in Australia for up to 90 days (the stay period begins from the day of arrival in Australia)
• This visa is valid for use for one year beginning from the day of approval (if your passport expires sooner than one year, your electronic visa will expire on that date also)
• Multiple entries into Australia are permitted on this visa
• This visa is for short term business purposes only (eg. Meetings. Conferences etc) and also allows tourist/recreational activies. It is NOT a work visa.
